Built alongside the AE and BE class these cars were combination first and second class cars with a toilet in the middle of the car. ABE's could carry 26 first class and 36 second class passengers. They were rated at 45 tons.

Lighting was by Pintsch gas until equipped with electric light in the early to mid 1920's. The two tanks carried the Pintsch gas.
